Accelerated development of aquaculture

Description

The flagship project aims to accelerate the development of aquaculture with a view to ensuring nearly 10% of global fishing volumes. From an operational point of view, it will be a question of increasing aquaculture production to 50 tonnes by 000, through the concomitant development of three (2023) axes:

  • Strengthening technical skills and productivity;
  • Creation of production stations;
  • Integration of the aquaculture sector.

Methods of implementation

The institutional anchoring of the flagship project “Accelerated Development of Aquaculture” is located at the level of the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Economy.

Operational implementation is ensured by public and private structures.

Public intervention is mainly carried out by the National Aquaculture Agency (ANA) as well as by projects and programs with aquaculture components, such as the Community Agricultural Domains Program (PRODAC).

Major Achievements:

  • Finalization of the aquaculture centers of Matam, in Diamel with an extension to Thilogne and Thiemping with an extension to Sinthiou Bamambé;
  • Promulgation of Law No. 2022-06 of April 15, 2022 establishing the Aquaculture Code.

Outlook 2023:

  • Aquaculture production (tonnes): 3;
  • Creation of the Mbellacadiano aquaculture center;​
  • Establishment of a pilot shrimp farm;​
  • Creation of the continental farm in Fandène;
  • Increased production of tilapia and catfish fry.
