Dakar medical city
Description
The “Dakar Medical City” (DMC) Flagship Project aims to make Dakar the region’s benchmark healthcare center through:
- Raising the medical level to international standards;
- The development of renowned tertiary centers;
- The establishment of private clinics meeting international standards, to meet an annual demand of ten thousand (10.000) additional patients from the sub-region.
A certain number of public and private projects have been identified as contributing to achieving this objective. These include, among others:
- The construction of four (4) regional hospitals in Kaffrine, Kédougou, Sédhiou and Touba, a Cardio-pediatric Surgery Center (Cuomo center) at Fann hospital and a National Oncology Center (CNO) in Diamniadio;
- The establishment of: a private hospital called “Hopital International de Dakar (HID)”, a factory for the production of medical solutions in Bayakh in the region of Thiès (Parenterus), a factory for the production of vaccines against yellow fever in Diamniadio and a Health Research Institute for Epidemiological Surveillance and Training (IRESSEF).

Major Achievements:
- Operation of four (4) regional hospitals (Sédhiou, Kaffrine, Kédougou and Touba) for a total of 750 beds;
- Launch of construction work on the Diamniadio National Oncology Center (CNO).
- Implementation of the first priority actions of the pharmaceutical industry recovery plan, namely the establishment of the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (ARP), the Sectoral Delivery Unit of the Ministry of Health, and the validation of the new law on the pharmacy.

- Reception of the new yellow fever vaccine production unit from the Pasteur Institute in Diamniadio, the Covid vaccine production unit and the Passy health center;
- Continuation of construction work on the National Oncology Center (CNO) in Diamniadio and the new polyclinic at the Main Hospital in Dakar.
