Relaunch of the integrated iron project in Falémé
Description
This project consists of promoting the construction of the infrastructure necessary for the exploitation of the deposit and the establishment of a long-term partnership with a mining industrialist for effective and rapid exploitation.
The objective being to achieve effective exploitation of the potential of iron ores of between 15 to 25 Mt and the establishment of structuring infrastructure.
This project will make iron a structuring lever for the creation of growth and exports for the Senegalese economy with a generation of around 600 billion of GDP and the creation of 18 jobs.
Major Achievements:
- Unlike these flagship actions which have recorded significant progress, the exploitation of Falémé iron has experienced various developments for several years. In its initial design, the project was handicapped by its complexity for its development such as the construction of large-scale infrastructure necessary for its profitability (railway line, ore port). However, the state of Senegal having taken initiatives for several years to rehabilitate the railway line (work in progress) and the construction of the mineral port of Bargny (80% progress in the 1st quarter of 2023) has encouraged industrialists to take an interest in the exploitation project. We can cite the partnership that was established with FABRIMETAL which carried out additional research in the area. The upcoming signing of a framework contract with an international manufacturer should allow the project to move forward in its operationalization phase.
Outlook 2023:
- Relaunch of the Falémé iron mining project with the prospect of signing the framework contract with a technical partner.
